CMS Adds Two Widescreen LCD Monitor Keyboard Rack Console with Integrated KVM Switches
Arcadia, California (May 8, 2006)—Contemporary MicroSystems has expanded its family of 1U widescreen LCD rack console with the addition of two models that include integrated KVM switches. The SMK-480WX17 and SMK-490WX17 offer the same features and functionality as CMS's existing SMK series rack consoles and offer 16:10 aspect ratio widescreen LCDs as well as integrated 8- and 16-port KVM switches.
With these two models Contemporary MicroSystems is addressing a market segment that needs to display wide aspect ratio images, and control multiple computers, from a single set of KVM console. Both models are perfect for business and educational presentations and multimedia production found in data centers, animation and movie production applications. By virtual of their 19" rack mount form factor, they can be integrated into server racks used in industrial production, scientific research centers.
Similar to widescreen TVs that use a 16:9 aspect ratio screen size, the PC's equivalent wide aspect ratio consists of several modes one of which is 1280 x 768. With 1280 x 768 number of pixels, there is 25% more display area than the 1024 x 768 resolution of an XGA display. The increased screen resolution has a direct impact on productivity, because now you can show more of your data, images, spreadsheet with less scrolling. The LCD panels of the SMK-480WX17 and SMK-490WX17 have 600:1 contrast ratio, a level approaching that of CRT monitors. Higher contrast ratio means you can judge your work more accurately because subtle shades of color or gray in your graphic images become visible.
The integrated console switches come in a 8-port and 16-port versions. Keyboard video mouse switch providing a convenient solution for controlling multiple computers. The KVM console switches let you control up to 128 PCs or servers by cascading additional KVM switches. The switches support hot plugging of systems so you don't have to power down the KVM to add or remove PCs and features auto-scanning of connected systems and systems on cascaded installations. Using the KVM can't be simpler, using a combination of on-screen menu and keyboard-mounted pushbuttons, the KVM scans for connected PCs and the operator uses the pushbuttons to select the desired PC either by number or by name. Assign unique names, rather by port numbers, to connected computers makes it easier to identify the computer in a network environment.
The new units uses a clamshell design to save rack space. The rack console slides out for access to its flip-up LCD monitor and keyboard. Front bezel on-screen display (OSD) controls allow adjustment of display properties in just seconds. Its built-in analog to digital conversion board and external 15-pin VGA connector makes the monitor compatible with a wide range of commercial off-the-shelf video cards.
The SMK-480WX17 and SMK-490WX17 are available now and are priced at $1395 and $1750 US per unit respectively.
