Aluminum Construction Rackmount LCD Console and Console Switch

For Immediate Release:

Arcadia, California (March 6, 2006)—Contemporary MicroSystems is pleased to introduce two new LCD console drawers for racked server environments. The SMK-520LS17 features a 17 inch TFT LCD monitor and the SMK-580LX15 includes an 8-port PS/2 KVM switch in addition to a 15 inch LCD monitor. Both units combine keyboard, LCD monitor, and touchpad mouse in a single functional unit. Their fold-away LCD monitors save valuable rack space. And by using an aluminum construction, they are lightweight yet strong and durable.

In a typical data center, server racks usually consist of several different computer systems, it is important that they can be administered from a central console. This is where the console switch can prove invaluable. It allows multiple servers in a rack to be accessed and managed by one keyboard, monitor, and mouse. By cascading multiple KVM switches, as many as 120 computers running different operating systems can be managed.

The console switch supports hot-plugging of systems, and features auto-scanning of connected systems and systems on cascaded installations. It has an 8-character password security feature that ensures only authorized users can view and control connected PCs or servers. The convenient and easy-to-operate KVM switch controls all ports using hotkeys or the mouse-driven OSD (On-Screen Display) menus.

The rack consoles are mounted on slide rails and slides out for access to its flip-up LCD monitor and keyboard. The SMK-520LS17 offers a 17 inch LCD with 1280 x 1024 resolution. The SMK-580LX has a 15 inch LCD with 1024 x 768 resolution. Their front bezel on-screen display (OSD) controls allow adjustment of display properties in just seconds. A momentary switch turns the LCD backlight off when the LCD is folded down to conserve power and prolong the service life of the LCD. Its built-in analog to digital conversion board and external 15-pin VGA connector makes the monitor compatible with a wide range of commercial off-the-shelf video cards.

The SMK-520LS17 and SMK-580LX15 are both available now and will be price at $1195.00 and $1395.00 US per unit respectively.
